Protect life and property by controlling, extinguishing, and preventing fires.
Provide emergency medical services and patient care.
Inspect, clean, and maintain firefighting equipment, apparatus, stations, and quarters.
The work

Emergency operations can require strenuous physical exertion for extended periods in cramped spaces, hot and smoky environments, limited visibility, and at considerable heights.

Minimum qualifications
The starting line.
- High school diploma or GED
- At least 18 years old by the application deadline for an open hiring process
- United States citizen
- Valid driver’s license from the applicant’s current state of residence
- Current CPAT certification before an offer of employment, unless exempt under Kentucky law and Kentucky Fire Commission regulationsLearn about CPAT and register with the Kentucky Fire Commission
Preferred qualifications

- Certified professional firefighter with Kentucky Basic 2 training completed in accordance with the Kentucky Fire Commission
- Current Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician certification
