Fire MarshalJoshua Cromer

Joshua Cromer joined the Scott County Fire Department as a firefighter in August 2018 and was promoted to Lieutenant in August 2023. After serving as the department’s primary fire investigator for approximately two years, he was promoted to Fire Marshal in July 2025. As Fire Marshal, Cromer leads SCFD’s fire prevention, fire and life safety inspection, and fire investigation efforts. He is also the department’s Public Information Officer, helping provide timely and accurate information to the community while strengthening public education and community risk-reduction programs. Cromer has conducted investigations involving structure, vehicle, and wildland fires and has worked to improve the consistency and professionalism of the department’s investigative process. He developed SCFD’s standardized fire investigation report, integrated its investigative workflow into the First Due reporting system, and authored procedures addressing investigator notification, scene preservation, and consent. His work also includes coordination with local and state partners, the Kentucky State Police Crime Laboratory, and the ATF Bomb Arson Tracking System. Cromer earned a Bachelor of Science in Management and Agricultural Finance from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Science in Safety, Security, and Emergency Management from Eastern Kentucky University. His professional qualifications include IFSAC Firefighter I and II, IFSAC Fire Instructor I, Kentucky Fire Prevention Inspector I and II, hazardous-materials operations and awareness, and the International Association of Arson Investigators Fire Investigation Technician designation. He is a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators, the National Association of Fire Investigators, and the Kentucky Fire Inspectors Association. His work is centered on preventing emergencies before they occur, conducting thorough and defensible investigations when fires happen, and helping the public better understand the department and the risks facing the community.
