Battalion ChiefHarold Hoskins

Harold Hoskins has served the Scott County Fire Department since July 1980, when he joined the department as a volunteer firefighter. He continued to serve Scott County even while building his career with the Lexington Fire Department. In 1993, he was promoted to supervise operations at Scott County’s volunteer-staffed Newtown fire station. From 1995 through 2023, he also served as an aide to the Scott County fire chief, assisting with purchasing, grant writing, research, administrative projects, and the implementation of Computer-Aided Dispatch. In October 2023, he became SCFD’s full-time Administrative Manager. Hoskins retired from the Lexington Fire Department in January 2017 after nearly 34 years of service. During his Lexington career, he advanced through every rank in the department and spent 22 years as a staff officer. He served as a district major, battalion chief, and assistant chief of operations, with responsibilities that included emergency operations, personnel oversight, labor relations, budgeting, fleet and facility management, procurement, and long-range planning. In 2016, he also served as Lexington’s interim fire chief. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Eastern Kentucky University. His professional qualifications include Kentucky Certified Professional Firefighter, Kentucky Emergency Medical Technician–Basic, Kentucky Fire Service Instructor II, IFSAC Firefighter I and II, and Hazardous Materials Technician. With more than four decades of service to Scott County, Hoskins brings extensive operational, administrative, and executive leadership experience to the department.
