Inspections are not just about finding code concerns. They help business owners and residents understand risk, make informed improvements, and help Scott County firefighters prepare before an emergency occurs.
New & existing businesses

New and existing businesses may schedule a Fire and Life Safety Code inspection with the Fire Marshal. The inspection also includes pre-incident planning so responding crews can better understand the property before they are needed.
Pre-incident planning
The visit helps SCFD become familiar with the building, access points, hazards, fire-protection systems, and other details crews may need during an emergency.
Ongoing inspections
SCFD will attempt to inspect every business in Scott County at least once each year. Businesses classified as high hazard may be inspected more than once annually.
Mobile food operations
Food trucks typically need an inspection before opening.
Food trucks generally require a fire code inspection before going into operation. After the initial inspection, they will typically be inspected at least once each year to help ensure cooking equipment, fuel systems, extinguishers, and other fire-safety features remain ready and properly maintained.
